Ethic rules for breeding as recommended by the Danish Bullmastiff Club:
1: It is the responsibility of anyone who picks out an animal for breeding to assess its physical and mental qualifications for breeding.
2: Dogs with HD status D and E cannot be used for breeding.
As per January 1st, 2005, it is recommended that dogs with an AA status higher than 1 is not used for breeding.
3: A bitch must not start breeding until she is fully grown. The minimum age must be 20 months.
4: A bitch ought not have more than 4 to 5 litters in her life.
5: Dogs with hereditary defects should not be used for breeding.
Mating that has given pups with serious defects must of course not be repeated.
6: Dogs with coating problems should not be used for breeding.
7: Mating between animals closer related than first cousins should be avoided.
8: Breeding where a few dogs within the race dominate the total breeding should be avoided.
9: Mating between the same dog and bitch should be avoided for a period of two years.
10: As long as the pups are in the care of the breeder he should make sure that the pups grow up in a physically and mentally stable environment. He should also
ensure that the race's characteristics are properly imprinted in the pups.
11: The breeder should give the buyer of the pups thorough information about the parents animals, the characteristics of the race, and of its special needs.
12: Both the owner of the bitch and the owner of the breeder dog should follow the pups until they are fully grown and thereby determine the qualifications of their breeders.
