The standards of the Bullmastiff
Overall impression: Muscular and harmoniously built. Radiate great strength without seeming clumsy. Healthy and active.
Characteristic traits: Strong, enduring, active and loyal.
Temperament: Good spirits, alert and loyal
Movements: The movements suggest strength and determination. During straight forward movements neither fore- nor hind legs
must cross or weave: right foreleg and and left hind leg must be lifted and lowered synchronously. The steady back line must be
unaffected by the strong movements of the hind legs and thereby show coherent and harmonic movements.
Fur: Short and stiff, weather protective and flat. Long, silky or woollen is particularly unwanted.
Colouring: All shades of brindle, fawn or reddish brown. The colouring must be pure and clear. A small white spot on the chest is allowed but
other white markings are not. The black colouring of the nose part that fades towards the eyes is of great importance. The dark markings around the eyes
contributes to the expression.
Size: Shoulder height: dogs - between 63,5 and 68,5 centimetres ( 25 to 27 inches)
Shoulder height: bitches - between 61 and 66 centimetres ( 24 to 26 inches )
Weight: dogs - between 49,9 and 59 kilos ( 110 to 130 pounds )
Weight: bitches - between 41 to 49,9 kilos ( 90 to 110 pounds )
Faults: Any deviation from the above points must be considered a fault, and the importance in a show must be rated proportional
to the extend of the deviation.
Note: The dogs must have two normally developed testicles in the scrotum.
The standard of the Bullmastiff is agreed at the FCI General Assembly in Jerusalem, 1987. |
